We've closed a long-standing gap in batch costing: splitting or blending a batch now carries its cost along with it.
Batch costs have always been calculated live. That's intentional. If you catch a mistake on a hop invoice weeks after brewing, fixing it should update that batch's cost immediately, and it does. But that same live-and-dynamic design was exactly why splits and blends couldn't be handled properly before: there was no reliable way to hand a portion of a constantly-shifting cost from one batch to another without it drifting out of sync. So the cost of a split or blended batch was simply left out of the total. Not wrong, just missing.
Now, the moment you split or blend a batch, we save a snapshot of the cost right then and carry that fixed amount to the other batch. It's not perfectly dynamic anymore for that portion, but a real number beats no number, and it gives you a far better picture of true batch cost than omitting it ever did.
- Nothing changes for ordinary batches. If you never split or blend, your batch cost is exactly as live and correctable as it's always been.
- See it in the breakdown. Open a batch's "Ingredients in Batch" view and you'll now see a line at the top for any cost inherited from a split or blend, and a line at the bottom for cost given away. Same detail shows up on the Batch History printout and the Batch Costs report.
- Existing batches aren't left behind. The Fix Batch button now retroactively applies this to batches that were split or blended before today. Simple, one-to-one splits/blends get fixed automatically; anything more tangled only touches volume and flags the batch for a manual look at cost.
While we were in there, we also caught and fixed a smaller bug: the Batch History printout was quietly leaving harvested/repitched yeast cost out of its ingredient total. That's now included too.
No action needed, this is live now. If you've got batches with a split/blend history, pop open Fix Batch and give it a look.
